Martha was described in the book as thin with a pinched face.

She is a mean character-a mean aunt to be precise. She wanted Julie to live with her and help her around the house while Julie went to school.

In the book she spent the most time with Julie-sending her to school, giving her meals, and looking after her. Julie had one problem with her aunt: she had separated her from Kapugen. Nonetheless their relationship was alright.

Kapugen is the character Martha is in contact with the second most. This relationship was not a very good one. Martha was the one who took Julie away from Kapugen by means of school.

Martha has a distant relationship with Naka or should because Julie left Martha to go live with Naka and his family when she married Daniel (Naka's son) at thirteen. Martha knew she would go and therefore must have known Naka.
