Lagopus lagopus Small grouse with rust-brown upperparts, head and breast, and white belly. Eyes have white ring and orange comb above. Wings and leg feathers are white. Tail is dark brown and squared. Female is brown overall with heavy white barring and white eyebrows. Winter adult is white with brown tail. |
